Summer, Severn Valley Railway

Wednesday 11th and Sunday 15th June 2008

Two visits to the Severn Valley Railway in June.  As my wife went to the first day of the Gardeners World Show at NEC
on the Wednesday, I continued on to the SVR, sadly the day after the Royal Visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall,
when 'King Edward I' hauled the Royal Train from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth and 'Princess Elizabeth' was standby loco. 
 On the Wednesday, all I saw of the 'King' was the tender at Bridgnorth.  Later that week, the Railway published on the
 Internet that both visiting locos would work service trains at the weekend, so we went again on the Sunday when the 
train service required four locos in operation; a bonus was seeing the Ivatt 2-6-0 on Driving  Experience duty.

Sunday 10th August

A further visit to the Railway in August. It was announced that Black 5 No.45110 was going to re-enact its role in the
famous 1T57 'Fifteen Guinea Special' of Sunday 11th August 1968 on the S.V.R.  I assumed it was to be this Sunday, 
but in fact it did so on Monday, the exact 40th anniversary.  The two 'Manors' Nos. 7802 and 7812, 2-6-2T No. 4566 
and No. 45110 operated this Summer Sunday service.  I left in mid-afternoon to see the second 'Shakespeare Express' 
of the day at Bishopton, just north of Stratford-on-Avon.
