Pictures

Penguin Web Solutions has considerable experience of presenting pictures and other graphics in websites.   Images can be placed with text or appear on separate pages, and can appear within the same window or frame or in separate pop-up windows.   The alternatives for producing images is discussed in the section on Content.

Pictures can be presented in groups in smaller formats referred to as thumbnails, which may be clicked to produce a larger image of the same picture, either replacing the page or appearing in a separate window.

With Internet Browsers it has always been possible for the viewer to change text size*, particularly when screens have higher screen resolutions, to improve legibility, but with graphics an image is displayed at its own pixel dimensions.  With higher screen resolutions the image appears proportionally smaller.   Penguin Web Solutions has developed a unique method of presenting images such that they appear at the same relative size on a screen independent of the viewer's screen resolution, see illustration.  This feature was originally implemented for 1024 × 768 and 800 × 600 display resolutions when they were the predominant screen sizes, but more recently the feature has been extended to higher resolutions.  Analysis of website hit statistics shows that the majority of browsers use 1280 × 1024 or 1024 × 768 resolutions (December 2010).  We can offer this feature for images on a website if the relative sizes of blocks of text and associated images is considered important; if implemented an additional cost per picture is applied.

Penguin Web Solutions can also undertake the production of simple animations.   'Marquee' banners can be incorporated if required.

More complex animations, whilst feasible are more expensive to program, can be produced if the client believes they would enhance the site.

* Recent updates to some browsers now enable the whole screen image to be magnified or just the text alone.
