Domain Names / Hosting
Penguin Web Solutions can register domain names with a selected registration
company appropriate for the content of the website after consultation with the client.
In the U.K., most clients will generally use one of the second level domain types, .co.uk
for commercial sales/retail sites, or .org.uk for charity or non-profit making organisations.
The newer .me.uk, .ltd.uk and .plc.uk domain types are sometimes worth considering.
The international .com, .net and .org domain types have been supplemented more recently by
.info, .biz, and .name but as with the original three they are more expensive to register.
Some registration companies offer country code domain types, e.g. .eu,
.fr, .be, .nl, .de, .se, .tv.
Registration can be combined with Hosting or it is possible to use free webspace provided by
the client's existing Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Hosting
Penguin Web Solutions can arrange the hosting of the complete website
with a selected hosting company. This is done for those clients who would prefer to use a hosting company,
or for those websites which would not function
without additional support facilities, e.g. server side support for programming such as
CGI, ASP, PHP, Perl etc., or form handlers, FrontPage extensions etc.
Penguin Web Solutions would select a hosting company best suited to the specific requirements of the website.
Using ISP free webspace
Many ISPs provide free webspace, for example, Tiscali provide 100Mb, Waitrose.com
50Mb. If the client chooses to use webspace provided by their ISP (Internet Service Provider)
web diversion is required.
Some registration companies provide web diversion to this type of server, the URL of the domain name is
automatically translated to the actual URL where the site is hosted.
This can be transparent or otherwise. Using transparent diversion incurs a small charge, the
alternative non-transparent diversion, usually free, often adds a small advertising pop-up or banner about the company.
It should be noted that with such ISPs, additional facilities may be restricted
to a simple Perl form handler and a hit counter.
For anything more than these, additional server-side facilities are only available
by registering with a hosting company and obviously the client pays extra for these.
Renewal fees
Penguin Web Solutions will register agreed domain name(s)
and arrange hosting if required, provided the client nominates an account holder,
responsible for the periodic renewals necessary to retain domain name registration, annually or biennially as appropriate.
If renewals are left to be done by us, an additional service charge with the renewal charge is payable.
Penguin Web Solutions looks to have a close working relationship with the client to ensure the optimum hosting option is chosen.
